September 2019:

Planning Application Approved

On 24 September 2019, Northamptonshire County Council's Development Control Committee approved Corby Limited's plans for the proposed Energy Recovery Facility at Shelton Road.

We are very pleased with the decision to approved the proposed facility at Shelton Road. We are also pleased with the Committee's report, which confirmed that there were no objections raised by statutory consultees during the consultation period, and which recommended the application for approval.

Corby Limited believes the site on Shelton Road, which is already designated for waste treatment, is the correct location for a facility of this kind.

The technology we have proposed is proven worldwide; it is safe and once operational will be strictly monitored by the Environment Agency to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation.

There is an overriding need for a facility to process Northamptonshire's waste within the county. Corby and Northamptonshire are currently not able to treat their local waste, which is exported outside of the county. With Corby and other local towns growing, the Shelton Road ERF will provide the infrastructure to reduce reliance on landfill and treat waste locally, reducing emissions from transportation outside the county.
